High tech,
low maintenance.
“From computers to cell phones to ventilators, when we can’t guarantee the possibility for affordable and efficient repair, our devices- and their manufacturers- are not meeting our needs.”

Right to repair
Part of the design challenge was to create a product with respect for the consumer’s right to repair
Due to the compact size, and tech-heavy knowledge part swaps would require, I decided to focus on battery swapping, simple disassembly, and cleaning.
Meet John.
John is a nurse.
He just got off of a long, difficult 12 hour shift- his last one for the week.
While he was driving home, his Pierto noticed several eye closing and head tilt events in close succession.
Thanks to the audio alert and flashing LED ring, he quickly snaps back awake and uses the brain games to keep himself going.
John makes it home safely and gets a well deserved rest.
Onboarding
Setup is fast and easy so drivers can get on the road as quickly as possible.
Pierto requires calibration at setup for the camera and infrared lasers to accurately detect the driver’s eye and head position preferences.
Tracking
Pierto records and tracks trip data for drivers to be aware of microsleep events so they can modify their habits to prevent an accident.
In the app, drivers can also educate themselves on sleep health.
After 3 microsleep events are logged in the trip, Pierto will warn the driver that they should pull over.
Brain games
Pierto works in tandem with your smartphone to provide an interactive way to stay awake.
The brain games are triggered when 3 microsleep events occur within 30 seconds.
All other sounds are paused and the puzzle is announced through the car’s speakers and can be repeated, so you don’t need to take your eyes off the road- just focus.
Solve the puzzle to disable the light, or if you feel awake simply say “cancel” or tap the x.
Alerts
The app will send alerts to the phone so that the driver can be aware of any events that occurred.
There is also an option to set up notifications to specific contacts if desired, in order to improve accountability and an added layer of reassurance and safety.
